A biodome or biosphere is an enclosed container that can sustain life. The object of the biodome is to seal inside everything necessary to keep all the necessary cycles going. There should be a balance in producers, consumers, decomposers, water, soil, air, light and everything. This is a very difficult balance to maintain. Don't worry if you don't have it perfect.
To complete this assignment, you will need a container that can be sealed, soil, water, producers, consumers and decomposers. The object is NOT to be the last biodome alive, but to study the biodome as it goes through changes to figure out what that balance is. Do not put any vertebrates in the biodome, and do not tamper with it after it's sealed. Be careful about how much sunlight it gets.
Put together a biodome and then keep a log of those things that happen. In school, this project will be started before winter break and completed in January. The project should last a minimum of two weeks. At least five (5) detailed biodome log entries need to be submitted, as well as a conclusion of what you learned about balance in nature. The better the entries, the better the grade. |
